Oppo, help me feel better. After backing over a curb with my Golf, the plastic underbody protector broke off. While the repair isn't Phaeton-level expensive, it's a rather embarrassing mark on my otherwise clean driving record.
So what have you done? Think of it like therapy...

Let my dad drive my car. Bad idea, he scraped it. Not a big deal though, you can't see it and it isn't too bad to repair either.

Within three months of buying a 328i, I pulled up too far on to a concrete parking space block, and scraped the shit out of the underside of my bumper.
Worst sound I've ever heard in my life.

I curbed my back right wheel, twice on the same spot on the same curb. (damn you NYC) what are the odds of that happening? and more over it is a BMW which is out of warranty so you know what the repair cost will be like..

Went to first instead of third when downshifting. Actually let the clutch out far enough to break traction on the drive wheels but managed to get it back in before the engine could handgrenade.

Sound is what does it for me. The curbage reminded me of running my family's boat into a rock... that was the most sickening mechanical sound I've ever heard.

I was letting my bosses dogs out, her driveway is a super steep downslant from the road. I approached it via the 'stance' maneuver, yet i still scrapped. I dont know what i scraped but it sounded horrible. And im not even lowered! (she apparently has no problems in her camaro....sureeee...)
Also, i parked on an end spot next to a curb on the passenger side. I forgot i parked next to the curb before driving away. My rear tire mounted the curb and quickly dismounted. The gas attendants came over and i, quite embarrassingly had to explain to them what i did...

Backed up my grandmother's Focus into a wall. Busted the right rear brake light and the bottom of the fender.
I've never felt so stupid at the helm of an automobile before.

I clipped a curb in a right hander on a one day old BMW 1 series hatch and ruined both rims on the passenger side instantly.
I also parked an M5 wagon on top of a roundabout.
Don't feel bad Whiskeyman.

Turned too early into a parking space and scraped another car. Still haven't fixed the scrape.
Removed aftermarket mods (supercharger, engine mounts, clutch, flywheel) because the car became too loud and started eating tires and gas.
Oh, and I like the current Honda Accord.

This might not look like it, but the wide angle lens betrays the actually massive decline heading west on this street past the tracks. Forgot about it once and flew going about 35-40 MPH. Bottomed out my 740iL, but luckily 60% of it was plastic cladding.

Thanks, I don't now! So far it sounds like an embarrassing miscue is a prerequisite for the Jalop merit badge. It depends on the situation, but I think a mistake is only a mistake if you don't learn from it, so let's hope that's the case.

My trucks automatic transmission has a digital lay out (Chevy S10) and when go into drive VERY occasionally the digital readout will be wrong and it's actually reverse. So one day this happened in a parking lot and I back into onto the hood of another car. The best part is the hooks I have underneath (usually for chains) pulled off the front bumper of the poor car behind me, needless to say it was a great day

I'm glad i made you feel better about yourself! ha!
That roundabout has caused many of these kinds of accidents. At least that's what i was told by the people that stopped to help. It certainly seemed like it since the concrete was full of marks, gashes and cracks at that very spot.
It actually sits at a highway exit after a blind corner. Low sun, i held my hand up under the visor because i was being blinded. Took my hand away and oh shit. Smack bang. Goodbye sweet wagon.

All of it. Car resale value was 25-30K or so at that time but insured value was over 70K. Not a bad deal, yet so sad. They are rare and i murdered it in cold blood. I felt really bad about destroying a rare car.
I've also owned an E60 M5 sedan (until it got stolen and carbq'd) but the wagon was more fun.

Hehe, no worries man. Shit happens ... well shit certainly did happen several times over in large quantities ... I was so very sad to see it burned like this. I mean ... this might sound really twisted, but i would've been happier if the people who stole it were still driving it. At least then the car would still be alive. A car like this doesn't deserve to die like that. NOTHING was salvageable on it. Just a couple hundred bucks worth of scrap metal.
I'm currently building a supercharged opel speedster/vx220. Gotta keep going.

Knowingly parked a good foot away from a high kerb and then promptly opened the door into it.
Also on same car, used an angle grinder about a metre away from the front passenger window. It got pock marked with hot steel :( paint was fine though!

This happened a couple of years ago, but it was pretty dumb of me. I was pulling out of my condo complex after it had been snowing, and it was very cold and icy. I wasn't paying close attention to what I was doing and I completely missed seeing the Taurus coming around the corner. I couldn't stop because of the ice, and I t-boned it going about 5 mph or so. I could have stopped if it weren't icy, but it wasn't the ice's fault. I never saw it. I never saw the BLACK Taurus on a background of pure WHITE.

I once pulled through the parking space in front of me instead of backing out. The problem with that was the parking-space-wide island in front of me. I promply jumped my front wheels up onto a curb-height island that was invisible from inside the car. Must have st there for five minutes trying to decide if backing up was going to rip my front bumper off. In the end, i got out just fine.

To each their own. Most people say the manual makes you feel more connected, but you can feel connected without a clutch pedal. I think in some cases it lets you enjoy the drive even more because you don't have to focus on shifting yourself.

Ha! I was about to post the exact same story. Unfortunately, I chose to back up and didn't get out "just fine". Scraped the living hell out of the front end and collected a putting green on the underbody. In my defense, it was early in the morning after pulling an all-nighter on a business trip. Unfamiliar hotel parking lot. And lastly, to brag, it was a rental car haha. Returned it 30 minutes later without a problem at all.

Was driving in some very sparse snow (I love driving in snow), and since it was so sparse I was changing course for the singular purpose of driving through snowy patches. Long story short, I was overconfident and busted a tie-rod and most of the plastic crap on the front of my car on a tree...which happened to be behind a fence...which happened to be set upon a rather tall curb.

If you're still looking for a body shop, I know of one that we go to every time someone decides to scrape with one of our cars, this shop does a good job usually. We've sent our Jetta, Odyssey, and BMW to get repainted here, They even fixed a Civic that was involved with the front end and rear getting smashed, it hit a car in front as well as getting rear ended. I'll leave their site here: http://grandtechauto.com/1.html

Went drifting in my moms 2009 is250 (we got it used. car was less then 3 months on our possesion) smacked a curb with the left-rear wheel. broke the wheel and suspension. 1250$
leaving school one day with the IS (this was 4-5 months later) some how i didnt turn the wheel far enoguh and smacked the curb. again. front right. 3000$
also backed up against a parking agarge once. didnt leave any marks on it, but...ugh.
also, what her previous car:
was backing up in our drive, and it comes up against the house on one side. i ghad left the door open and because i was just rolling it back after changing the oil. door got jammed up against the wall and bent the door frame a bit. they didnt notice until the day after, and blamed it on someone trying to break into the car.
